Transitional Kindergarten

Suntree’s Transitional Kindergarten program is designed for children who have outgrown preschool but would benefit from another year before entering a traditional elementary school classroom. This can be especially helpful for children whose birthdays fall after the Boise School District’s September 1st cutoff and who would otherwise have to wait another year to begin kindergarten.

Language Immersion Setting

Students will be instructed in French and Spanish—alongside English.

Continuing Suntree's committment

Transitional Kindergarten (TK) continues Suntree’s commitment of achieving proficient bilingualism in children—something that research has shown to promote significant cognitive advantages (as well as the obvious benefit of speaking more than one language).

Both French and Spanish instruction is integrated in the TK curriculum, providing students a truly unique opportunity. Children pick up languages quickly and enthusiastically when learning feels natural, engaging, and connected to their daily experiences. No previous French or Spanish language experience is required for transitional kindergarteners—children pick up fast!

TK students also enjoy priority enrollment in Suntree’s after-school and summer camp programs.

Curriculum and hours of operation

Our TK program supports the whole child, targeting Idaho’s early learning guidelines. This is achieved through play-based learning, and student-led projects.

Suntree Language Academy's Transitional Kindergarten program is open Monday-Friday, 8:45 am - 3:30 pm. Please plan to drop off by 9 am to ensure your student can participate in our planned curriculum! We do not offer half-day programming, but you are free to pick up your student at any time before closing.

The TK program follows the Boise School District calendar. All closures can be found on our calendar page.

Information and Polices

Vaccination policy

For the safety of our school community, Suntree requires that our students be up-to-date on the Idaho immunization schedule. We do not accept exemptions to this policy. As of July 1st, 2025, the Idaho Legislature has enacted conflicting laws regarding vaccination in childcare. It is our hope that these are remedied soon. Irrefutable evidence provides proof of the safeness and efficacy of childhood vaccination.

Dress code

Suntree's students wear uniform tops or dresses every day but Friday, which helps encourage focus on the work and play at hand. More information on dress code is available in our family handbook at enrollment time.

See our Suntree Shop for ordering.

Food policy

Suntree doesn't have a kitchen on-site, so we ask that families provide lunch for their children. In order to make that easier, we give each family an insulated lunchbox as part of their enrollment. Enrolled families can order backup/extra lunchboxes from us at our wholesale price.

*If a child enrolls with severe allergies, we may limit what can be sent for lunch.

Tuition

Suntree Language Academy is committed to livable wages and good benefits like health insurance, tuition reimbursement, retirement matching, paid vacation, paid monthly professional development days and more—and we do our best to balance this commitment with accessibility for as many families as possible.

Please know that we are able to provide limited financial aid to those in need; a quality early education should never be out of reach because of money.
